Northeastern Illinois University places special emphasis on your first year. We know from research and experience that building a strong foundation your first year is the key to your future success.
The First-Year Experience Program (FYE) is designed to help you transition into the intellectual, cultural, and social community of Northeastern Illinois University. We do this through our FYE classes and co-curricular opportunities. All students who enter the University with fewer than 30 credit hours (which includes all first-time freshmen) must take one FYE course.
Ready to register for an FYE course? Complete the following steps first:
- Apply for admission to Northeastern.
- Get admitted to the university (check your status if you're not sure).
- Attend first year orientation at Northeastern (you can register for classes during orientation, including FYE classes).
If you have completed all the above steps, you can meet with an advisor to register for an FYE course. Contact the Advising Center to set up an appointment.
The First-Year Experience offices are located in C Building Room 509 and 510. You can reach us by calling (773) 442-4296.
