St. Augustine College and Northeastern Illinois University Sign Collaboration Agreement
Initiative to expand opportunities to Hispanics in higher education
CHICAGO — Recognizing the need to promote the advancement of Hispanics and other groups in higher education, St. Augustine College (SAC) and Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) signed an agreement of collaboration today at St. Augustine's main campus. As part of this agreement, SAC and Northeastern's El Centro Campus will support one another and to provide accessible, quality, affordable educational opportunities and other services to its surrounding community and to pursue mutually beneficial opportunities.
Northeastern will cooperate with St. Augustine College by providing access to the space and resources of its new El Centro Campus. St. Augustine College will provide access to its community of students and faculty to the students and faculty of Northeastern Illinois University's El Centro Campus.
This partnership is especially important for Northeastern as it prepares for a fall 2014 opening of its new El Centro Campus. The new NEIU El Centro Campus currently is under construction in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood at 3390 N. Avondale Ave., near the intersection of the Kennedy Expressway and Kimball Avenue. In addition to serving Northeastern students, the NEIU El Centro Campus is dedicated to providing resources to its surrounding community.
"We are pleased to partner with Northeastern Illinois University to expand the scope of educational opportunities available to the students and the communities we serve, especially since many of our associate degree graduates pursue higher degrees at NEIU," stated Andrew Sund, president of St. Augustine College.
Sharon Hahs, president of Northeastern Illinois University, added "Over the years, our two institutions of higher education have collaborated on programs to advance the educational opportunities and attainment of Latinos and other minorities in the sciences and in the area of pedagogy. This agreement strengthens our relationship with St. Augustine, and I am pleased that, together, we will be helping more people find success though education."
