Northeastern is deeply committed to shared governance, a process that includes voices from all university constituencies in decision-making, goal-setting, and problem-solving at the University. The groups below participate in governance at Northeastern.
Faculty Senate
The Faculty Senate represents the various faculty constituencies at Northeastern. Members are elected from all Northeastern Colleges and the Library. The Senate addresses academic and faculty issues, coordinates recommendations from other councils and committees, and advises the President.
University Advisory Council
Established on January 1, 2013, the University Advisory Council was created to enhance shared governance at Northeastern. The University Advisory Council complements the existing Northeastern Councils and committees by including representation from all University constituencies, and by focusing on University-wide matters.
University Planning and Budget Council
The purpose of the University Planning and Budget Council (UPBC) is to advise the University President concerning the alignment of budget proposals with the University’s published Mission, Vision, Values, Goals and strategic direction, as well as to enable regular communication on budget and planning issues between policy-makers and the various constituencies that make up the University.
Civil Service Council
The Civil Service Council is an elected group of Civil Service employees who represent the interests of this constituency. The Council discusses, advises, and makes recommendations to the administration on issues pertaining to the welfare of all Civil Service employees. It also ensures that their constituency is represented on certain University councils and committees.
Administrative and Professional Council
This elected Council represents administrative and professional workers at Northeastern. The Council helps ensure effective communication between A&P employees and other NEIU constituencies. The Council also encourages A&P workers to participate in all aspects of the shared governance process on campus.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA) is elected by students to represent them. The SGA embraces diversity at NEIU to promote a cohesive and unified student body. It is dedicated to leading with integrity and strives to be the voice of all Northeastern students.
UNIVERSITY DIVERSITY COUNCIL
Established on January 1, 2013, the University Diversity Council was created to foster and maintain an intentionally inclusive and supportive multicultural learning community at Northeastern. The University Diversity Council facilitates and promotes dialogue and educational programming that support diversity, multiculturalism and social justice, with representation from all Vice Presidential areas across the University.
