Helldobler Appointed Provost and VP for Academic Affairs at Northeastern Illinois University
CHICAGO – Richard Helldobler, Ph.D., has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU). Helldobler’s extensive experience in higher education leadership includes more than 20 years of demonstrated success collaborating with faculty and staff to meet institutional goals.
“We are very excited to have Dr. Helldobler join the Northeastern community,” said Sharon Hahs, president of Northeastern Illinois University. “He will advance the vision, mission and strategic plan and provide leadership in strengthening the University’s academic position in Chicago and nationally.”
As provost and vice president for academic affairs, Helldobler will serve as NEIU’s chief academic officer and provide administrative leadership for the colleges and support units within the area of academic affairs.
“I am thrilled to be joining a community with students who are bright, articulate and passionate about NEIU,” Helldobler explained. “I was equally impressed with the caliber and accomplishments of the faculty. They truly embrace and celebrate the diversity of our students and do an excellent job of preparing them for leadership and service in a global community.”
Helldobler comes to Northeastern from Shepherd University, where he has served as vice president for academic affairs for three years. Previously he served for three years as associate provost and associate vice president for academic affairs, six years as dean of the college of liberal arts, and 10 years as chair of the department of theatre and dance, all at California University of Pennsylvania.
