Northeastern Illinois University Works to Support Veterans
Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) has been named a Military Friendly School by "GI Jobs" for the second year in a row.
The 2013 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace students who are military service members, veterans or spouses and ensure their success on campus.
On Sept. 27, NEIU President Sharon Hahs co-hosted an event dedicated to enhancing veteran's higher learning experiences. The committee developed the "Valuing Veterans Pledge," establishing a new commitment to student veterans.
The pledge states Northeastern Illinois University will improve outreach and recognition to veterans. These efforts may include assigning dedicated spaces to student veterans, fostering on-campus veteran organizations, providing transition services between local VA facilities and NEIU, acquainting the school's career center with veteran employment opportunities, programs and resources, building awareness about the needs of student veterans to the University community, making class-credit policy clear for veterans who have military experience and training, and having a single point-of-contact at the institution to help veterans find information and enrollment procedures.
